Porcelain Flooring Care Tips

Guide on How to Clean Porcelain Tiles

If you are thinking of having porcelain flooring tiles installed in your home, you will want to know how to clean and maintain them. Take a look at our guide on how to clean porcelain tiles below. The type of porcelain you have installed will determine the way you need to clean them.

What You Will Need

  • Broom

  • Dust mop

  • Vacuum cleaner

  • Clean fresh water

  • Soft nylon bristle brush

  • Clean towels/microfiber cloth

  • Cheesecloth

  • Bucket of hot water

  • Cleaner/vinegar and water mixture

Unglazed

  1. Start by vacuuming them to remove any dander, dust, or dirt.

  2. Saturate the tile with some commercial cleaner one section at a time, or two or four feet square. If you do not want to use a commercial cleaner, you can use a mixture of vinegar and water.

  3. Leave this to sit for a while, however, do not let it dry.

  4. Remove any stains using a soft nylon bristle brush.

  5. Remove the cleaning solution and rinse with some hot water.

  6. Lastly, dry the tiles using a clean towel or a microfiber cloth to prevent streaking.

Glazed

  1. First, vacuum any debris and dirt, and then use a dry dust mop to go over the area again. You can loosen heavier soiling with a soft nylon-bristle brush.

  2. Use a mop that is damp and wash the tiles, however, never allow moisture to puddle on the tiles.

  3. Mop the area with your vinegar and water mixture.

  4. Go over again with your mop before the cleaning solution dries.

  5. Dry the tiles using either a clean towel or a microfiber cloth. Make sure you remove all water spots.

  6. Once done, buff the tiles to bring them back to their high shine with some cheesecloth.
